After passing the first Egyptian roadblock, the Israeli Granit Task Force continues to drive to the Suez Canal at Kantara. With 20 km to go, Granit TF encounters another Egyptian blocking force this time block the bridge over a small canal. The Egyptians have dug in infantry, SU-100 Assault Guns, T-54, and T-55 tanks backed by mortars and occasional air support. Granit TF within AMX-13 light tanks and jeeps with recon platoons is reinforced by M48A2 tanks and a battalion of paratroopers mounted in halftracks.

The Israelis halt and engage the Egyptian Armor at long range and within 45 minutes have destroyed al the T-54s and T-55 and driven off the SU-100s. The Israeli force surges forward, clears the first town and envelopes the bridge and western town by forcing the canal both in the north and south. Although some Israeli vehicles get mired, a significant force crossed over and soon the Egyptians are surrounded. The Egyptian Air Force clobbers some AMX-13 platoons but it is not enough. The one Egyptian ATGM position fizzles on its first shot, out of ammo. By noon, the Egyptians are being reduced but the commandos and Egyptian command staff hold out n the bridge town for over an hour. By 1300 hours, the Egyptians are down to two demoralized half strength platoon and a handful of officers. The Egyptians surrender.
