#2 Hill 273 |
---|
The Germans had a tougher nut to crack this scenario, they needed to clear the large woods north of the east-west road and take control of the 40m hill to the south, which the Soviets started dug in on. The force balance in terms of numbers, moral and support weapons are pretty much equal, with the Germans having the advantage in artillery assets, leadership and if it shows up, air support. This time the Soviets had some artillery support of their own which was surprisingly accurate, not that it eliminated any steps but the disruption and demoralization that it caused, coupled with the Soviet HMGs OP fire wreaked havoc on the advancing Germans in the open. The Germans countered with their OBA & mortars but for this battle it was not as effective as the pervious scenario. The advantage in artillery was somewhat negated by having to clear the large woods of Soviet infantry due to friendly fire concerns. It took the Germans most of the game to clear the woods, which did not leave them much time to tackle Hill 273 and with only 4 steps separating them from defeat they decided to consolidate their gains and a minor victory. |
