As the Romanians advanced they come under accurate Soviet OBA fire that disrupted and demoralized most of the Romanian infantry but their armor advanced unfazed to attack the Soviet right flank. The armor come under fire from a lone Soviet ATG position which missed, the R-1 tanks returned fire and quickly knocked out the threat then they proceeded to roll up the unsupported Soviet infantry positions to capture the bridge. It was at this point that the Romanian armor attack started to bog down as they took too many casualties assaulting the remaining Soviet positions just south of the bridge and never did get close to assaulting the town, thus giving the Soviets a minor victory.
