Leaders in Airborne & Airborne:IE
Those of you who use the ILS may have noticed a some updating going on. Lou has been a little busy over there. One issue that has come up is leadership for glider formations. Specifically glider units using regular army leaders instead of para leaders, and if that should be the case.
Historical background narrative: Glider regiments were originally formed from mechanized infantry regiments.
These units were like the 36th & 41st Armored Infantry Regiments, of the 3rd & 2nd Armored Divisions. So they are already starting as the better pick of the army. Unfortunately, since gliders were considered safe, it was a while before they got extra hazard pay, like the paratroopers. Glider infantry retained much of the TO&E of their ground counterparts. This meant generally heavier weapons, but a low proportion of automatic one, as compared to the paratroopers. They also had 3 squad platoons where as the paratroopers had on 2 squads in theirs. The combat records of the glider infantry demonstrated every bit of tenacity, fortitude and elan which one would expect of and ascribe too the parachute infantry, despite the lack of extra pay and comparable respect.
I don't about Airborne, but Airborne:IE does not specify which leaders should be used (regular or para). In the library, regular army leaders are indicated. Now what is the consensus as to which leaders should be used? Para leaders, assuming enough of them for the scenario, or regular army leaders.
I vote for para leaders.
... More and more, people around the world are coming to realize that the world is flat!
