Leaders in Airborne & Airborne:IE - plloyd1010 - 06-03-2019 Those of you who use the ILS may have noticed a some updating going on. Lou has been a little busy over there. One issue that has come up is leadership for glider formations. Specifically glider units using regular army leaders instead of para leaders, and if that should be the case. Historical background narrative: Glider regiments were originally formed from mechanized infantry regiments. These units were like the 36th & 41st Armored Infantry Regiments, of the 3rd & 2nd Armored Divisions. So they are already starting as the better pick of the army. Unfortunately, since gliders were considered safe, it was a while before they got extra hazard pay, like the paratroopers. Glider infantry retained much of the TO&E of their ground counterparts. This meant generally heavier weapons, but a low proportion of automatic one, as compared to the paratroopers. They also had 3 squad platoons where as the paratroopers had on 2 squads in theirs. The combat records of the glider infantry demonstrated every bit of tenacity, fortitude and elan which one would expect of and ascribe too the parachute infantry, despite the lack of extra pay and comparable respect. I don't about Airborne, but Airborne:IE does not specify which leaders should be used (regular or para). In the library, regular army leaders are indicated. Now what is the consensus as to which leaders should be used? Para leaders, assuming enough of them for the scenario, or regular army leaders. I vote for para leaders. RE: Leaders in Airborne & Airborne:IE - Shad - 06-03-2019 Which ones are better? And am I playing as the Axis or the Allies? (para) RE: Leaders in Airborne & Airborne:IE - saracv3 - 06-03-2019 ... Para Leaders ... ... . . .. , RE: Leaders in Airborne & Airborne:IE - plloyd1010 - 06-04-2019 (06-03-2019, 09:59 AM)Shad Wrote: Which ones are better? And am I playing as the Axis or the Allies? Statically (between the ranks that matter: Para majors are slightly inferior to the regulars. Para captains are a little better than the regulars. Para 1st LTs are a much better than the regulars. Para 2nd LTs are a little better than the regulars. Someone seems to have voted for the regular leaders. I would like to see that rational. One of you seems to have forgotten to enter a vote. RE: Leaders in Airborne & Airborne:IE - plloyd1010 - 06-05-2019 Has anyone got a scan of the scenario book for the original Airborne? Scenario 20 is of particular interest. RE: Leaders in Airborne & Airborne:IE - rerathbun - 06-05-2019 I have the original Airborne. What do you need? RE: Leaders in Airborne & Airborne:IE - plloyd1010 - 06-05-2019 I need the leader count on Scenario 20. If it is like the version in Airborne:IE, it needs all the American leader counters. RE: Leaders in Airborne & Airborne:IE - rerathbun - 06-05-2019 Scenario 20 Leaders: Germans: 1 x MAJ, 3 x CAPT, 4 x LT, 2 x SGT US Para: 1 x COL, 1 x LT COL, 2 x CAPT, 2 x 1st LT, 2 x 2nd LT US Regular Army: 1 x CAPT, 1 x 1st LT, 1 x 2nd LT, 1 x SGT RE: Leaders in Airborne & Airborne:IE - plloyd1010 - 06-05-2019 That is just like AB:IE 10. Regardless of how the poll goes, Those scenarios are going to use regular army leaders. That's why we check these things. Thanks. RE: Leaders in Airborne & Airborne:IE - plloyd1010 - 06-11-2019 By a margin of 7 to 1 glider troops should use para leaders. Airborne 20 and Airborne:IE10 use all the U.S. leaders, so no changes there. Whoever cast the dissenting vote: I really would like to know if you had a specific rational, and what it might be. |
