M8 Scott and Indirect Fire

Reading About U.S. Cavalry Group Operations in WWII and noticed the M8 Scott Howitzer had an indirect fire capability out to 9,600 yards and these assault guns were used in that Indirect Capacity quite often.

I know it really probably won't greatly affect scenarios with M8s, but and wondering why the M8 Scott counter does not indicate Indirect Fire capability?

Great question, I had heard this about M8's as well. I thought that they were more of SPA unit tank a tank for PG. I suppose one could change there factors, maybe 10-40 as BF instead of DF.

The M8 was good in a DF role and used for bombardment. it was actually not good for an assault, since it was open topped and only had a rear facing .50cal for Air Defense as its secondary weapon.

Even more reason to put it as a BF instead of a DF.

Before you guys get too carried away, consider the can you are opening. Most units in the game with 75mm and larger low and mid velocity guns have indirect fire capability, and many were often used that way. For example:







Add to that notion, that WPN and many HMG units are the company support platoons, and those have light mortars. Thus they have some indirect capability.

So where do you really want to draw this line? Keep in mind that it is a hard line, there no mixed DF/BF units. Lastly, how should one expect the character of the 21 scenarios, in which the Scott now appears, to be altered?

Let us not forget that HMG were originally used as indirect fire weapons. True, that was one or two wars prior to WWII, but still ...

Got to agree with Peter. PG's attraction is its simplicity as a game system. Here and there, things threaten to get bogged down in details perhaps barely needed.

Maybe indirect fire M8's are sometimes part of the OBA strengths ?

Whatever it all is, stick to the system because its probably that that hooked you in the first place :-)
