Banzaï ?
Currently playing "throw them into the sea" from Saipan. Quite interesting and enjoyable (it would be even more if I'd stop rolling "1"s in Assault...).
However, I keep wondering if there is any reasonable reason to delete the "Banzaï" rule from Saipan. Or was it simply forgotten ? It is the second Saipan scenario that I play and these two are Japanese counterattacks ; infiltration is essential in these situations. Jay ????

A second point : is "throw them into the sea" a Night scenario or not ??? Visibility is two hexes for the main part of the game and special rules dont mention "Night rules"...

RE: Banzaï ?
Leonard, thanks for the questions! Part of the scenario is night, see special rule number 3 for the scenario and the reason visibility was two hexes, was that fact it was a star/noon-lite night as I recall. When AP gets to the Tinian & Guam scenarios, where are 3-4 scenarios with one hex visibility in noonless night action. I believe the Tinian & Guam Scenarios are some of the best I ever wrote with a lot of research.

I didn't used the Banzai, as in many case the Japanese pulled back when lossing or went around strong points to the rear but maybe on scenarios like Desperation and a few others I should have kept them. It was just a judgement call but please feel free to use them if you would like to or not.

You see, the problem is that I don't play solo, most of the time, and we have a kind of competitive way of playing. If I get the Japs in a Saipan scenario, there's no chance my friend would give me the use of the banzaï rule if it's not included in the Saipan special rules (simply because he is thinking - exactly like I would - there must be a reason for the absence of that rule).
In a similar way, there's no chance/reason why we would use Night rules in a scenario when special rules don't specify their use (the special rule of Saipan n°7 has no mention of "night").
I understand playing solo must be quite different regarding the 'arrangements'...

Leonard, if you guys are that competitive then don't use either Banzai or Night rules, as they are not included in Saipan.

Leonard,

I feel your pain (not with Saipan yet though as I have still yet to play). All the games I play are against an opponent either ftf or on skype. I can be very frustrating when SSR's are not overly clear on what rules to use when both players are doing their darndest to win.

Yep. Indeed. Especially when the back cover of the game states : "The campaign saw the largest tank battle of the Pacific war, and also its largest banzai charge".Dodgy

Leonard, you are talking about scenario #39 which is setup to represent the large Banzai attack of the war to that point. The situation simulates a mass Banzai attack with the special rules, in the fact that the Japanese initiative never lower in this scenario and their victory objectives are eliminated American steps. One for every step and leader eliminated, tanks and artillery count double. I think this scenario does and excellent job Simulating a mass Banzai attack. Now if only I could get some of you to play it other than myself to confirm it! Cool
