I haven't played much of either but based on my experience with Arctic Front/Arctic Front DX and PG/EFDx what I see is that the expansion of maps permits the more recent versions to do the same scenarios "better". The counter sets are identical and many of the scenarios have identical OBs. I would go with the Dx.
Everything in the old version went in to the new. There are some typo corrections, wider board utilization, and some scenario tweaking. In the new version, counters were corrected, leaders and strongpoints added.
If you got the download version, definitely not worth the trouble. If you got the print version, it may be a cheap way to get some extra counters.
As Plloyd said, you will get more counters and corrected counters, and appropriate leaders with the print edition. Plus, in my case, I will be able to retire some of my original Edelweiss counters to my boxed Tank Battles set and finally have all 792 units required for a boxed version of Tank Battles :-).

What is the interest in China for wargames? Would it be worth the trouble for AP to push Chinese language version of Power of the East, Guadalcanal, Saipan 1944?

Very low.
Those that are interested (primarily in HK) have no trouble importing English editions and creating their own translations. Google "Wargames Club HK" for the most famous example.
With rampant IP theft here (there are "DTP" versions of Twilight Struggle readily available in online stores for ~$12) AP would never get a return on their investment.

I received the new version of Edelweiss tonight. At first I thought I wouldn't as I own earlier versions but I am happy I did, the book has a lot of nice articles and adds some new scenarios and a few new counters as well.
One other thing, AP corrected the S35 & H38 counters having the same values on the Gold Club counters back in 2007 but you reverted to the incorrect ones on the current copy.
