Remedial Fields Clarification Desired - LOS
Recently, the T-Rex, Tambu and I have been playing several individuals online & face-to-face who insist that fields block the LOS of units on the same elevation.

I can't find this stated anywhere in the 4th Edition rules. Maybe I am missing something?

Please consider this example:

In flat, clear terrain, two combat units are 12 hexes apart in clear terrain, and both are on the same elevation level. If there is a large - let's say 5-hexes deep - field in summer wheat in between them, can they observe and fire at each other?

I think they can see each other & therefore engage each other. What do you all think?

Nope. In the rules, fields are limiting terrain, but do not block LOS.

The people you are playing with are likely thinking of a particular type of field. In Colorado there are field and fields, and still other fields. If you are talking about most grain fields, they are not going block LOS for anyone. Get into a bean field, still not blocking LOS, but easier to hide in. Cornfields, personnel units probably cannot see over them mid-summer, but are never high enough to block someone in a vehicle from seeing over the top. So, there are field and there's fields. Generically, the game isn't too far off.

Kudos to plloyd1010. Again, dead on with the rules AND a reiteration of the general gist of the game.

Even units dug-in within a field would be visible, to approaching enemy units within 3 hexes, or 4 if they are recon platoons, correct?

Hmm, just like that lethal cornfield at Antietam (Sharpsburg) in Sept 1862!
