[FiAx] First Axis #3 - Slovak Setup

RE: First Axis #3 - Slovak Setup
Ok, I would still go for the bridge. The Hugarians need to fight for it, so there is the possibility of demoralizing or reducing the number of steps on the far side of the river. Even if they get around, the Slovaks can exploit any weak flank security on the east side of the river and snatch a town hex or two from that on in the east, if the opportunity presents itself.

The 1x8 + 1x15 OBA may not sound terrifying to one accustomed to lead German troops but my limited experience as a Slovak and Ecuadorian leader suggests such a powerful OBA has a good chance to decimate my troops. I chose to keep open the option to retreat to the far west town, perhaps incorrectly.

LOL - I play Romanians, Italians and Slovaks too... all Axis. My set up would still be along the lines I suggested. Looks an interesting scenario.

Yes.

From memory:
The Hungarians must control the bridge hex and have more undemoralized steps than the Slovaks west of the river for a minor victory.

The Hungarians must control the east-west road and all town hexes next to it for a major victory.

But they still have to get that bridge.

The bridge is the crux of all the Hungarian VC's. No bridge no win. So let them get their boots wet and spread all over the board, just don't let them on the brucke Smile

D,

I was going to suggest the same thing.

So all I have to do is avoid a Hungarian Major victory to do better ? Heart

You set your bar pretty low, Herr Hughes.

We'll see what my artillery has to say about it.

RE: First Axis #3 - Slovak Setup
In my play of this I did concentrate a large Slovak force at the bridge and I kept the rest of the force in the woods to the north to handle any attack which managed to get across the river. It worked reasonably well but, as in your case, the Slovaks did have some trouble remaining coherent. The Hungarians were also pretty tender and I had a lot of stacks with black markers on top.
No "minor" country left behind...
