3rd Edition Set

Huzzah! Found my missing copy. It was put in a wrong storage bin. Any-who...


I have the 3rd Edition set. The maps are laminated, bought this way, flimsy card stock is there a way make them lay flat or can I get different maps, made from better material? 

Could I mount them on some wood? What would be a good way?

Would using tacky glue work or is there something better?

A lot of people put the maps under thin plexiglass. You can find some at your local craft shop for under $7. No point getting the better quality one you find at the hardware store.

Yes, the thin stuff, and do tape the corners of the plexiglass. Actually we use quick clamps, but if I didn't have those it would be blue masking tape.

I use painter's tape at the corners. A roll lasts forever.

I get the 40% coupons online for Hobby Lobby and buy their poster frames at a low price. Over the years, I've picked up an 18x24, 22x28, and 24x36, which covers all possible configurations. I can even do the four-map monster scenarios by combining two of these and joining the frames. And they store just fine standing behind a door.

By the way....new versions of the Eastern Front maps will be shipping soon included in Fire on the Steppes. Don't know if all 8 are incorporated. This will be the 3rd version of 6 of the 8 original maps.

The blue tape on plexiglass also works well for those scenarios with special instructions such as "no units in hexs #### or greater." Just put a line of tape on that row/col and you have a clear visual of the modified terrain edge.

I purchased my plexiglass at a Home Depot/Lowe's so I suppose, based on the above, that it must be the thicker stuff.  I like the weight, frankly, as it is stable on my table top without need for taping it down or to an adjacent piece.  In the old days, I used the stuff for placing D&D miniatures over squared paper and would use wax pencils to denote rooms or corridors or outside terrain.  

I prefer the glass to be somewhat larger than the map area so that I can have whatever reinforcing counters or markers "on" the glass. Probably OC of me, but it just seems to present better and, if I had to move the scenario, everything can be airlifted together.

I use tile spacers for that and other purposes. I like that they don't slip when on the plexiglass,
