FLM as ENG
4th ed. rules. 15.5 Flamethrowers: The FLM is treated as a non-engineer unit when entering minefields (16.63), and cannot clear minefields (16.65). FLM units are treated as a normal ENG unit in all other respects.

Those this mean that FLM units can assist in river crossings?  Dodgy

Yes, and fill in ditches, and clear mines.

So, yes they are, but no they aren't. Everything is exactly the same, except for when it is different? Glad that got cleared up.

As such? They are are contradictory. Obviously you are not using one of them.

RE: FLM as ENG
Simple question, do they function just like regular engineers or not?

That was my question. I don't now. You can read the rules like that. But in the AARs i'm reading of the game and scenario I'm playing, Cassino 44 scenario 3, they say one ENG. Conclusion out of that is that FLM is not a regular ENG.

My point is that this is a pick your rule situation. You might consider address Avalanche support over on Consim. You might get an answer as to intent.
As for Cassino'44, it was written at a time when every game with FLM units had a slightly different special rule.
