It is tough to maintain a site went you are dependent on cloud services that you have no control over
Which is why we don't our myBB install is local and slightly customized (our medal ribbons, for example).
There's nothing on this site that I can't crack open and hack at if the need arises. Some of it may take me a bit of time to grok, but I keep the platforms as narrow as possible.
What IS tough is users who insist on using all sorts of different browsers and O/S... why can't we all standardize on x86 Win 3.1?!?
...came for the cardboard, stayed for the camaraderie...
I just finished writing an 25,000 lines Oracle package for specs that changed at least a dozen times during development. As I know specs will change again and again, I wrote the damn thing to be configurable with several level of abstractions.
The problem is there are only two people on my team (out of 18) who understands abstractions well enough to maintain the code and settings.

The joys of modern software. But I thought all this new stuff would make it easier, at least that's what the vendor told me...

Yeah, and let's break out the 3.5 floppies too.
Go old school and break out the 8 inchers!
2,500 years ago people worshiped cats. The cats have never forgotten this!
