On-board arty/mort fire

One of my greatest failings is that I tend to forget to assign a leader with a "combining" factor to the mortars/arty... particularly since they usually don't come on board at the same time. It does change the particulars of the scenario if one can "drop", say 48 SP on a hex rather than 24, yes?

That's what those 8-1-0 and 7-1-0 lieutenants are for. Or that smart colonel who you don't want on the front line.
