The Issues in Mixed Assaults....
So, situations keep coming up with the Assault calculations...
You'll recall we had a discussion about AFVs in open defending with First Fire against units in the open--
while being attacked by units crossing open ground + units coming out of Light woods...the consensus
was that First fire would apply against only the open ground units---IF the AFVs chose to take first fire....

So we've come upon some additional situations like this:
1) Units on a hill, dug in, being attacked by units also on the hill (an HMG) and units coming UP the hill....
The defending unit gets FF...but, can he apply the "+1 Side defending higher elevation slope hex from attacks on lower level"
to A) No units as since one is not lower, it doesn't apply; B) Against Only the units attacking up hill--but then no impact on those attacking
from same level--so it applies but if you use it you impact only them (like the tanks?); or C) It applies against all the Attackers as some
are attacking from lower level?

2) Handling Cavalry...in the world of DF+1 BF+1...let me say it's a skill I need to keep working on...
How do you get to take advantage of a charge? (+1 on Assault for charging Cavalry)

The simple case of 2hexes away, the units in the stack(and adjoining) charge---all coming in at same time--no brainer...
The problem is when the Assault is currently active-- i.e. there are already units in the hex....15.31 even alludes to the cavalry getting
the charge bonus when such friendly units are Already in the hex (2nd paragraph)...But it does not clarify how to deal with those
units participating in the Assault, and whether the +1 applies....  Let me say right now, Cavalry is already at such a disadvantage I'm looking for
clarifications that might make them more the a Step bonus for my opponent...

If a Cavalry unit charges into an existing ongoing Assault hex---if the units in that hex have not yet activated for that turn--Do the Charging
Cavalry allow them to activate and then get the +1 on the Assault?..
A) no--the fact that ALL units in the Assault are Not charging cavalry means no +1;
B) Yes--even One Charging Cavalry provides a +1 bonus to any Assault in the hex.....
C) something else--- the Cavalry gets to resolve a separate attack with a +1, the other units don't get to participate...or they do their own attack at same time but
the attacker doesn't get to combine factors....

PERSONALLY---- I'd like to see for 1) the same resolution as the tanks... you get to FF against all with no benefit, or 1 attacker with hill...
2) Cav gets to add the +1....any charge will do...

Very interested in opinions...maybe a poll?
