Blackcloud’s second lament: Optional Rules, House Rules, and Rules Creep.

A loud hear hear from this side of the Atlantic Blackcloud.  I agree with a lot of what you say.  Optional rules are OK and I believe the ones in PG have come through various discussion's during the development of the 4th Edition rules where there was not a consensus. 
Rules creep occurs with all systems games series and PG has escaped the worse of this. I am an ASL player and as I have said to my FtF opponents if I had my gaming life over again I would avoid ASL. House rules I have softened a little bit since playing Treadhead (as I call him) but on the whole I completely concur with you as to how utterly detestable they are. Mind you I hate the "optional extended AFV overrun rule even more".
