But combining with multiple hexes requires a inf leader with a fire rating of at least one and he can only combine other inf/apc to his hex WHILST tank leaders can NEVER combine with units that are in a DIFFERENT hex anyway (although they can activate them of course).
And to confirm Peter's reference to 7.33, units in the same hex of any type may always combine the SAME TYPE of fire (ie: either all DF or all Bombardment, but never a mix and AT never combines).
There, that is as full and simple as it can be :-)
