Conversions to Expansions when Games Are No Longer in Production
I picked up DAK44 because it sounded interesting. Now I'm running into some issues with availability of units required. I presume most of it is the lack of Gurkas, but may also be later British armor units. I wonder if there are other games besides Casino 44 that I can find these in, or if there are alternatives, such as using Maori for Gurkas or something along that line. Other instances call for the use of boards that are no longer available, such as Beyond Normandy. If there is a combination of available maps that could be recommended to replace unavailable maps that would help people like me, who have joined the fight rather later than many. Thanks for your thoughts.

'Desert Rats' has a very large Gurka contingent, unfortunately they are only used in one scenario. I wouldn't substitute Maoris for Gurkas though as they have completely different DF ratings.

You'd have to check the units tables to see if Desert Rat Gurkhas are different DF than Casino Gurkhas (as British infantry change from a 4-3 to a 5-3 in that time).

If its the same as Dezratz then I would get Dezratz as it has many many useful 'Empire' units.

I have the same issue with scenarios using the swamp boards from Infantry Attacks or SWWaS scenarios using the maps from Leyte Gulf.

If Infantry Attacks is out of print now, it won't be for long. Dr. B has indicated that the maps of August 1914 and Fall of Empires (12 in total) cover a lot of ground of what is present day Poland and Ukraine, and plans are for them to be used extensively in future PG books (Polish Campaign, Ukraine and Byelorussia 1944. The Workers and Peasants and Iron Wolves scenarios are just the beginning.

Until it is discontinued. Given the propensity for APL to make dramatic changes to the series with little regard to the existing supplements, I am more weary of investing too much.

Well for the sake of the buyers lets hope they make these 12 maps in the same style of art and colour tones otherwise its another project blotted Rolleyes

You are correct Vince, the Gurkhas in 'Desert Rats' are at different DF ratings than 'Cassino 44' and safe to assume that the higher rated, later war Gurkhas would be used for 'DAK 44'. Apparently AP finds it acceptable and reasonable for customers to buy more than one copy of a game for the components to play out some scenarios as we are all affluent and have the means to do so! The maps in Empires, I believe, were ready to be printed 2 years ago, when Empires was postponed to allow production of KSF. They were done by Christopher West.
