Beyond Normandy UK Battalion ID?

Beyond Normandy has many scenarios where UK losses are tracked by battalion and they can lose morale as their casualties increase. The game came with the counters so marked.  However, our VASSAL modules do not have these.  The counter label function is not activated in the VASSAL module so the player cannot label them.  I'm setting up a scenario with three battalions in close proximity to each other.  How can I differentiate these units?

I don't know at the moment. There was an extension that that provided a counter overlay that could help, but I don't know where that got too. With the next main module update, counter ID's will be added, but that won't help much right now.
