Japanese Assault Bonus

Ii have read that their is a +1 column modifier for Japanese INF units that attack in an Assault, is this true? I found nothing in the Saipan 44 SSR's or the 4th Ed rules.

Also, the 4th edition makes clear that this applies to all forms of Japanese infantry (SNLF, ENG, SER), however does not include HMG.
