Pusan terrain question - joe_oppenheimer - 09-05-2014 Looking over Pusan last night in preparation for play. It's a beautiful package, but without a terrain key I'm a little confused about a few of the terrain types. I'm hoping someone (Jay?) can clarify. On map #93 are the blue pond like hexes such as 0214 swamp, salt marsh/rice paddy, or just open water hexes? How about hexes like 0411, 1010, or 1213? Are these Rocky terrain? Or just clear hexes that have a little embellishment to make them look nice next to the hills? The hex 0214 and similar are rice paddies and are treated like fields. True they are very wet fields. Hexes 0411, 1010, or 1213 and similar should be treated like slope hexes. I hope that helps? Unlike Saipan which has actual cliff hexes, there are none yet in the Korean War. Correction: For hex 0214 and similar use the rice paddy terrain. I'm looking at the 4th ed Terrain chart and perhaps the issue is that this was designed using 3rd edition. Rice Paddies have their own entry in the chart and are slightly different than fields (not limiting terrain, can't entrench, slightly higher movement costs). Slopes are defined in the terrain chart as "any hex with an elevation line running through it." That would seem to exclude the hexes I asked about above. Not trying to be difficult. My goal is always to play as the designer intended, but I'd also like to be able to use the terrain chart that came with the game. RE: Pusan terrain question - JayTownsend - 09-05-2014 Joe sorry, I never noticed the rice Paddy column before. Yes please correct what I said to this: For hex 0214 and similar use the rice paddy terrain. Pusan is my first game where I had the 4th edition charts, so I am still getting use to it. The slopes, you can handle as you see fit but for me that is slope terrain: Hexes 0411, 1010, or 1213 and similar RE: Pusan terrain question - joe_oppenheimer - 09-05-2014 Thanks, Jay. I'll play as you suggest since you designed it that way. RE: Pusan terrain question - JayTownsend - 09-05-2014 You are welcome Joe. Over the last week I played my first four scenarios using the 4th edition charts and rules, without the optional rules however. Some of those I might try later. 3 from Pusan Perimeter & 1 from Burning Tigers. So I am a little slow on getting updated with the new version but I really like the changes to the assault chart. |
