Axis Armor totals, Battle of Sicily! - JayTownsend - 02-23-2013 Kind of interesting but while I was doing work on a scenario related to Sicily I found the actual Axis armor totals on Sicily during the Allies invasion. Italian: 148 tanks: R-35, Fait 3000 and L.3 with about 100 being the R-35 variety. 68 assault guns: Semovente 47/32, Semovente 75/18 and Semovente 90/53 with 24 being the Semovente 90/53 variety. 50-60 armored cars: AB41 Also a lot of trucks converted into Portees of different types. Total Italian armor was about 276 vehicles. German: The 15th Panzer Division had 53 tanks: 7 PzII’s and 46 Pz IV’s The HG Panzer Division had 122 tanks: 53 PzIII’s, 32 Pz IV’s 20 StuGIII and 17 Tiger Tanks Also a variety of halftracks including Flak! Total German armor was about 173 tanks. Total Axis armor for the battle of Sicily about 451 vehicles! Food for thought in the PG world!
