Road in swamp - geofgibson - 09-07-2024 Apologies if this is an obvious one. I have searched the rules as well as the forum. Question is, in the case of a road crossing a swamp, if units are using the road for movement and are attacked, is the terrain for defense swamp or road? My gut tells me that the rules would state clear terrain because of the road, but, reality would say the first thing foot units would do when attacked on a road in a swamp would be to dive into the swamp for cover. The road also forms an embankment which blocks LOS. I thought there was a rule about "choosing the side" you occupy, although I couldn't find reference to it (could be another game in my head...?). So, if I had to come up with something on my own, based on available rules, I would guess that the foot units on the road would be able to "choose" to be on the side of the embankment which blocks LOS. But something doesn't feel right about that since they're out in the open on this raised road. Even though the majority terrain feature would be the swamp. If they get movement bonus from the road, seems like they should be in clear terrain. Is there a definitive rule on this? The specific case here is board 13 from Airborne. RE: Road in swamp - plloyd1010 - 09-07-2024 Road have no effect on combat. Hence, if a road goes through a swamp hex, units under fire are affected as though in a swamp hex. RE: Road in swamp - cjsiam - 09-07-2024 Unlike a more tactical game we all know.....Turns in PG are 15min...so...in that time, everyone is off the road within seconds.... The question of getting help from an embankment, may depend on scenario and theater....in Asia, roads through rice paddy could provide embankment cover---in europe, east front....not sure as much.... |
