1) Bridges. Units attempting to cross a river at a bridge (choke point) hex will face increased risk, and be subject adverse column modifiers.

a) Assaults - An attack originating from a bridge hex into an adjacent hex are subject to a -2 column shift for the attacker. The attacking side in any assault occurring in a Bridge Hex is assessed a -1 column modifier.

b) Direct Fire - Unit(s) conducting direct fire or opportunity fire against a unit(s) in a bridge hex get a +1 Column shift.

c) AT Fire - Units conducting AT fire or opportunity fire against (an) armored vehicle(s) in a bridge hex get a +2 die roll modifier.

d) Bombardment Fire - On or off board artillery units conducting bombardment fire or opportunity fire against unit(s) in a bridge hex get a +1 Column shift.

Disagree with the assessment for bombardment, but the rest look OK.

i.e. bridges (and hence, traffic) was hard for bombardment type units to hit.(Not so now, with better "guided" projectiles/missals, etc.)

Agreed Gunny---but...
the target unit is also more compact so any hit would be more damaging as well...
that might be the rationale...

Ya gotta "hit it - to get it!"

I disagree with the breadth of the application. That is because there is a lot more deployment space in the hex, even with most major rivers in the game. Generally the penalties should only apply in movement situation, such as when using road movement.

Assault: The penalty should only be against units making extended assaults or overruns. On the other hand, defenders in a bridge hex are likely to defend from the opposite side of the bridge, forcing the attackers to cross the bridge or do a river assault.

Direct fire: Most definitely an opfire only situation. No one is going to wait on the bridge to be shot.

AT fire: Again they are not going to sit on the bridge. However, based on direction of travel, an AFV might be in a cross-fire situation. If an AFV takes a loss while crossing a bridge, it would block the bridge, making the hex a river hex,

Bombardment: Again, no one sits on the bridge to get shot. Though opfire from mortars should get the bonus.
