How do you calculate VPs? Or just point (rub my nose in it) me the way

Victory points, when they are used, are defined in the victory conditions of a given scenario.
They are usually thing like 1VP per step or unit eliminated. Victory points for towns or hill-tops, victory points for objectives fulfilled. It is all quite variable.
