Positioning 0-0 leaders - pixelgeek - 06-05-2020 Is there any benefit to stacking 0-0 leaders with combat units? Does placing them in a hex behind combat units make more sense? Apart from the ability to activate 2 stacks 2 hexes apart, there is no advantage, and it increases the risk(slightly) of having your command disrupted. To the first question, not much. The advantages are being able to assault and being in a better position for assault combat, and slightly decreased vulnerability to being alone. You could reposition them prior to an Assault though to get the advantage. They can help with activations---so being able to reach more units is important....so behind could be advisable... remember---units can't advance on enemy units unless activated by a leader---so you need them in the area where fighting is happening.... Being in the ASSAULTING hex or ASSAULTED hex is key for soviets.....they are so screwed in most Assault situations any and all leadership is needed... But, once they are in an Assault hex, they can't do any activations outside, save to bring units into the hex...so you'll need other leaders in area as well... One thing to be very careful of is decapitation..... Leaving Soviet Leaders in hexes where Large amounts of German Arty can hit them can result in Bad Ju-Ju for command and control of the Soviets.... Vince Hughes was notorious in head-to-head play for sending otherwise useless leaders out ahead of the main force to get LOS for off-board artillery. Annoying but effective. Do Kommisars provide a better use --- a) up front to keep units in foxholes and assaults b) in the rear to get them back into the fight ?
