[7.63] Assault - Pippers - 07-04-2012

Hello! New player here, and I was going through the rules and I noticed this:

If a "1" result is rolled on the Assault table, the fire causes the following damage:

1. One step loss to one enemy combat unit of any kind in the assault hex, AND:
2. One step loss to one enemy wagon, truck, or sledge unit in the hex.

...

If a "2" or "3" result is rolled, the fire causes 2 or 3 step losses (respectively) to both unit types listed above.

...

I want clarification simply because the assault combat chart simply shows:

Roll of a 1 does "No effect" until you have a fire value of 18 and above. Even then those effects are morale checks. Shouldn't this simply say "1" across the board for any fire value as the rules stated above?

Likewise for rolls 2 and 3.

Looking at the chart should only show "no effect" if player rolls a 4 or 5 with a fire value 3 or less. Which is about 3 spaces total on the entire chart.

The Assault rules in 12.0 make no mention of what I quoted above either.

I feel like I am missing context somewhere.

The "1", "2", or "3" above do not refer to die roll but rather to the result found on the Assault table.

For example, "1" is the result of a "4" die roll under the 18 Fire Value.

Hi Pippers,

To put it another way, in spreadsheet speak:
  • the column header is your direct fire value
  • the row is your die roll value (1 to 6)
  • the field at which they intersect is your assault result (no result, 1, 2, or 3)

I just had a blonde moment.

I disagree, your question makes sense for a new player to ask. The wording could be clearer.
