RE: PG Games We'd like to buy - beast013 - 06-29-2012 Of course, don't forget about each of the beaches for Normandy. Also could include the paratrooper drops as well. RE: PG Games We'd like to buy - beast013 - 07-02-2012 Doing some rough math and taking into account the historical objectives for the first 24 hours versus the historical gains, I offer the following based on the 200 meters/hex: Utah Beach 9km x 9km equals 45 x 45 hexes Omaha Beach 8km x 6km equals 40 x 30 hexes Juno/Gold 21km x 15km equals 105 x 75 hexes Sword 12km x 12km equals 60 x 60 hexes Cassino maps are 26 hexes by 19 hexes, so you would need about: Utah - six maps Omaha - four maps Juno/Gold - 16 maps Sword - six maps Again rough measurements based on historical planned objectives for day one. From a map perspective, not bad. For the supporting counters, that would be huge. Yeah, I hadn't even started considering that. You'd have an absolutely monstrous set-up ahead of you. Not much diversity in the OOB too, I'd wager? At least for the initial waves of landing. RE: PG Games We'd like to buy - waynebaumber - 07-02-2012 For me Op Market Garden would be my No1 choice, my favorite western front WWII battle. RE: PG Games We'd like to buy - beast013 - 07-02-2012 Thinking about it a little more, the counter count may not be that bad. Assuming about 110 counters per division (using Panzer Lehr as a template), we would need the following: Allies - six divisions (seaborne invasion) for about 660 counters. Allies - three divisions (airborne invasion) for about 330 counters. Germans - five divisions and a few regimental-sized forces - let's say another 660 counters. Cassino comes with 660 counters (looking at a comparision), so it seems within the realm of possibility, especially if each beach/airborne drop was handled as a stand-alone game. RE: PG Games We'd like to buy - vince hughes - 07-02-2012 I think perhaps a map-set, scenarios and MAYBE a few D-Day relevant counters is all that is necessary for these battles and therefore it can be sold in a grip-bag. Most of the units can all be drawn from sets already out there. I'd be very surprised if there was a box for each beach produced, they'd be way too samey I think ? RE: PG Games We'd like to buy - Shad - 07-02-2012 What if they did a one-off mega scenario supplement on one of the beaches? Include 2~4 maps + an additional countersheet and play your very own 400 turn scenario! ;-) RE: PG Games We'd like to buy - vince hughes - 07-02-2012 (07-02-2012, 05:58 PM)Shad Wrote: and play your very own 400 turn scenario! ;-) 400 Turn ... That's only 4 days. I was hoping for a scenario that went all the way to the end of August !!! That way you could inccorporate all the Normandy supplements (BN, BSS, PL) into a mega-supplement ...... kind of a gestating supplement if you will. 400 turns is for wimps |
