My fault: I thought about ftf being something like Vassal RE: What game for beginners - campsawyer - 07-10-2013 (07-10-2013, 05:30 PM)Maggal Wrote:(07-10-2013, 05:07 PM)vince hughes Wrote: IMO, Vey well !! Sorry, very limited Vassal play available for PG. To be honest the Skype play is better. RE: What game for beginners - Maggal - 07-10-2013 Too bad: Elsenborn is currently not available... What else to buy instead? RE: What game for beginners - larry marak - 07-10-2013 Afrika Korps. 50 scenarios, 4 nationalities, 3 full-sized paper maps (this is old fashioned I know, Avalanche uses cardboard panel maps now) lots of play value. Its currently on sale at 30 percent off with the Melissa coupon in the online store. If you join gold club, it will be an additional 50% off (and Eastern Front will be 20% off). Now that I've spent all your beer money, I will point out to you that Avalanche publishes the most enjoyable, pretty, and extensive naval boardgame system too. Welcome to our forum! RE: What game for beginners - larry marak - 07-10-2013 Also, if you're crazy like me, you'll notice that Afrika Korps covers close to the same time period as Eastern Front. You can throw together endless alternate history scenarios of Great Britain"s invasion of the U.S.S.R. in 1940 on Eastern Front maps, or if you are really daring, Make the U.S.S.R., Hitler's "ally" during the period of the Nazi-Soviet non-aggression pact, a co-belligerent on the Axis side during the Desert campaign. I just witnessed Komissars and NKVD troops make all the difference at Beda Fom last night..Avalanche gives you all the tools, the orders of battle and the maps;its up to you how you play them. RE: What game for beginners - Maggal - 07-10-2013 Thanks Larry! But again bad luck: shipping to germany is $ 44, so the game would be pretty expensive overall . And at my german retailer Afrika Korps isn´t available, too . Which scenarios of Eastern Front would you suggest for beginners (since I´m getting this one definitely)? RE: What game for beginners - Hugmenot - 07-11-2013 The Fall of France (average scenario rating = 3.43 scenario), Eight gorgeous maps. A good variety of small (<50 pieces), medium (50-99 pieces), and large (>100+ pieces scenarios). Interesting Order of Battles. It would be my first choice because it's currently on sale. Saipan (average scenario rating = 3.63) has a lot of small scenarios and interesting terrain. It's the most solo-friendly games from the Pacific theater in my opinion. Desert Rats (3.36) and Afrika Korps (3.18). Of the two, I prefer Desert Rats because latter games tend to have better scenarios than earlier ones. However, Afika Korps has more small scenarios than Desert Rats. RE: What game for beginners - vince hughes - 07-11-2013 (07-10-2013, 11:33 PM)Maggal Wrote: Thanks Larry! Well that settles it.
