Map Art Poll - Poor Yorek - 03-06-2014 Given the ongoing discussion of maps and artwork, I asked Shad about a poll. I'll probably screw this up so ... RE: Map Art Poll - Matt W - 03-06-2014 In my vote I've focused on ease of play and the EF/RtB maps are the easiest to play on. There simply isn't anything questionable on the maps at all. RE: Map Art Poll - plloyd1010 - 03-06-2014 I think FoF has the best hex/terrain definition. My only issue is with the 2 types of fields. The little extras on the Kursk board adds some nice flavor. RE: Map Art Poll - Hugmenot - 03-06-2014 The Kursk: South Flank maps have the best balance of beauty-practicality in my opinion. I can't vote for Kursk (both) until I have the Kursk: Burning Tigers maps in my hands! As much as the Saipan maps can be difficult to read (especially if you have the darker maps), they do present a nice challenge for players to move efficiently when playing cat and mouse. Some maps give me more trouble than others, maps 12 (BoB), 34 and 35 (Kokoda Trail) for example. I was simply attempting to limit the choices by conjoining the two: it seemed that the artwork on the two Kursk games was rather similar, albeit the terrain in North Flank (how I think of it) is rougher, particularly on one board. Likewise, no one has Pusan in hand, but I added it simply to include based on the views at APL. RE: Map Art Poll - rerathbun - 03-06-2014 Most condusive for play: EF/RtB Best looking geomorphic: Elsenborn Ridge Best looking overall: Cassino '44 RE: Map Art Poll - zaarin7 - 03-06-2014 I voted Elsenborn but IMHO that and Bulge should be listed together in the same way both Kursk games are. RE: Map Art Poll - vince hughes - 03-06-2014 Z, Only trouble with the Bulge maps that set them apart from ER is the different style of art and the fact that far too many Bulge map hexes have dubious light woods hexes (ie: Is it a 1/4 of a hex or isn't it). However, taking that away, I actually like the art style on BotB. I must respectfully disagree. BoB and ER use very different artwork (the matter of whether certain hexes are ambiguous is, to my mind, quite different albeit necessary issue to resolve). And my point all along has been that elegance combined with functionality makes the most effective product. As far as I can tell via a computer (not having product in my hands) the two Kursk games use essentially the same color palate and art-scheme. Put another way, "switching" BoB and ER artwork would produce, in each case, very different looking maps. "Switching" the Kursk maps artwork probably would be near to indistinguishable (given the caveat above). I'd certainly like to see (i.e. would pay for) BoB brought to ER standards (and winterized), but not ER in the BoB schema. RE: Map Art Poll - Dean_P - 03-07-2014 I also voted for FoF, with ER a close second... can't vote for Saipan or Kursk as I don't have them in hand, similarly for Pusan. And the vote doesn't have Airborne. I actually like that map a lot! |
