7.33 Combining Fire
As units may add their direct fire values together, is it possible for tanks to combine with for example INF?

This wasn´t the last beginners question for sure Confused.

Thanks!

Yes, but only if they are in the same hex with the INF, or with a leader and a infantry unit in the same hex. So a T34 and INF in the same hex could combined for a DF shot of 12, or if a leader with a '1' firepower mod was with them, add in a stack of INFs in the adjacent hex to increase the DF.

What about a tank adjacent to a hex with INF and a leader (combat modifier of "1"). Is that leader able to combine the firepower of INF and tank although he´s not a tank leader? Seems a little odd...

No, the leader cannot combined the tank DF in this case. Leaders of tanks and infantry are kept separate. Technically, the tank IN the Leaders hex is not being activated by the leader, but is activating as a stack. Think of it as the tank commander talking to the infantry leader. When they are adjacent, they can't do that.

I understand this is odd and maybe a bit gamey, but it does make it interesting.

RE: 7.33 Combining Fire
These are the reasons why a regular leader can not add firepower from AFV's in adjacent hexes:
Its because they can not activate them.

3.33 Regular Leader Limitations
Similarly, Regular leaders can't activate or direct AFVs (except APCs) .

******************************************************************

However, they can activate together in the SAME hex because of this:

3.11 Individual Units and Stacks (part copy of rule)
An individual stack (everything that's stacked together in one hex) may also activate with or without the assistance of a leader, no matter what types of units are in the stack

RE: 7.33 Combining Fire
By the way, activating a stack with includes an infantry leader and an AFW with a tank leader is the way to assault a new position with combined arms.

The infantry leader activates units in his own and/or adjacent hexes to fire, and the AFV with a tank leader activates itself and/or tanks in adjacent hexes to fire, and they all assault the new position. I will take a picture or two tonight and add to this post to make this clearer.

Stacking a leader on an AFV with infantry next to it can be useful, especially if the enemy has powerful Off-board artillery. The closed-top AFV is only vulnerable to "X" results on the Bombardment table and thus your opponent may decide it's better to bombard the infantry next to the AFV because of the better odds of getting a useful result..

Or the other option is to fire on the AFV's and score a 'X', killing the leader and forcing a morale check on the AFV's. This would really ruin a plan.

Either way it gives your opponent something to think about.
