Either 9 or 10 (I don't have the book in front of me) of the 1st 10 scenarios use hidden deployment for one or both sides. That definitely cuts down on the soloing possibilities. Overall, though, it looks like a nice supplement.

I noticed that as well. Most of the scenarios use hidden deployment for 1/2 or more of the defenders. This makes the thread on soloing hidden units that much more important...
No "minor" country left behind...

Actually, its every scenario. Here's the breakdown by Scenario. Unless otherwise noted, only a portion of each side begins hidden:

1 - British
2 - Germans
3 - Germans
4 - Germans, British
5 - Germans
6 - Germans, British
7 - Germans
8 - Germans
9 - Germans
10 - Germans
11 - British
12 - Germans
13 - Germans
14 - Germans
15 - Germans (All)
16 - Germans
17 - Germans
18 - Germans
19 - Germans
20 - Germans
21 - Germans
22 - Germans
23 - Americans
24 - Americans
25 - Americans
26 - Americans
27 - Germans

I am not sure why AP is adding hidden rules to some scenarios? When I designed Nihon Silk, none of my scenarios had hidden rules in them or were play-tested that way but after AP developed it, I noticed they added the hidden rule in a couple of the scenarios, but they really don't need them.

I should mention that all of the scenarios are of the "May set up hidden" variety. So, I suppose you could play them without hidden units, although where's the fun in that? I think Vince is right. A chance for more FtF play. Some of these scenarios have only 10-15 units per side, so they are perfect for Skype, if nothing else. One could send out an e-mail beforehand saying "DON'T OPEN THIS - HIDDEN UNIT DEPLOYMENT" in an attached text file or something, and have it verified at the end of the scenario.

Even easier for Skype hidden units, just create DRAFT emails with the hidden items and release them when you reveal. For verification, the draft date/time stamp will be on it.

Josh,

We tend to send a 'Hidden Unit E-Mail' to fellow skypers should an accusation ever arise :-)

No Hidden Rules should apply to any scenario in Nihon Silk, as I did not design it this way, so feel free to play without them, as I play tested this way as well.
