Tanks or no tanks?

RE: Tanks or no tanks?
I watched some people playing ASL at a convention in Michigan years ago and decided it was not for me. I could not understand the appeal of such a system. It seemed like you spent so much time trying to navigate through the rules you never got to think about tactics and the story the game is supposed to be telling.

I don't recall an ASL modifier from stacking a 40m hex with lots of units......so a single Squad, versus a platoon...same damage profile...
I could be wrong, it's been years....but they stare down at me from the shelf......

Anyone know if there is a "dense stacking" modifier?

Yes, there are penalties in ASL for exceeding stacking limits.  It is rule A5.  There are movement penalties, firing out of the hex penalties, to hit penalties and so on.

So is there something like the 3units +1 column DF in PG?

I just remember the huge stacks with their extra LMGs adn -2 officers making me
constantly unhappy....
moving with abandon as a group...

No, it's not... it rarely happens, as Sarge says: "Don't bunch up."

ASL is easy...  people just think it is hard.

No, the penalties apply only when exceeding stacking limits.  There is a doctrine in ASL:  Move by stacks, die by stacks.   The good players spread out their forces and avoid stacks.
