Stepping into a larger world
Panzer Grenadier began as a slug fest on the Russian front in World War 2. By the time Vassal was an option, the version was 3.2.17. Panzer Grenadier has expanded from 1936-46 into 1898 to 1968. Likewise, Vassal has jumped 3 sub-versions to version 3.5.3. The opposing sides are no longer just Axis and Allied. Vassal v3.2.17 is buried in an FTP archive. Now we spring forward, not only on our clocks, but also in our online play.

The biggest change to PG Über is that the sides have been changed to Blue and Red, whereas they were Allied and Axis before. The primary reason was to genericize the two sides in order to support Infantry Attacks and Modern games. Keep in mind that “Modern” means anything after World War Two from the perspective of PG Über. This means that Iron Curtain and Korean War games are “modern” for Vassal play.

So, who is Blue and who is Red? I went along a very American centric path. The United States is Blue. Nations or forces opposing the United States in games or scenarios are Red. Allies of the United States are Blue. This means in World War 2, the Soviet Union is blue, in the Iron Curtain scenarios and later it is Red. This makes the Spanish Kingdom and Mexico Red. Nations or forces supported by United States allies Blue. Nations or forces opposing United States allies are Red. This makes the Polish Army fighting the Soviet Union in WW2 Red. Nations or forces getting support for United States opponents are Red. This make the Peruvian military Red.

The other change is that PG Über 3.0 was built on Vassal engine 3.5.1 and 3.5.3. This means that Vassal 3.5.x, or higher, will be required to use the base module. Older OOB, leader and aircraft extensions will still run on PG Über 3.0, but there will be issues, especially with shared play.
... More and more, people around the world are coming to realize that the world is flat! Winking
