Direct Fire - OF + Adjacent - +3 Modifier?
How about this: Unit moves next to enemy resulting in opportunity Fire, thus equaling a +3 modifier. I’ve been playing this way. As ludicrous as it sounds there are times for forcing this issue. But I’m not certain I ever entertained it except against those Italian entrenchments.

One thing is moving from an unseen position like a forest hex onto the next hex in which the enemy suddenly has that opportunity shot.

Sounds legit....Adjacent +2; Opportunity Fire +1 = +3 ...which is the max uplift on DF...

This happens in an assault situation, un-avoidable.....

suppress and then approach....

The assault on the the entrenchment comes to mind, yes. These Italians held that position for a very long time with very limited troops in East Africa. I didn’t think the scenario would be anything like it was.

So this is my current situation: 2 Maori platoons move next to a platoon of German paratroopers, cause they have big brass ... knuckles. The Germans miss the shot because they go white and freeze by the sight of these no fear tattooed guys running toward them! Next turn the Maoris blow away a step and disrupt the other. Nasty! So much for the +3 advantage. Never say never!
(Okay, truth be told, I simply made a mistake in moving the Maoris there, but went through with the move anyway.)

The Maoris aren’t quite as tough as those crazy kids in the Potato Fortress scenario in Road to Berlin!

Hey, last night I had OF against charging cavalry.  +2 Adjacent, +1 OF, +1 Cavalry.  Sadly limited to +3 columns, making my 2 shot and 11 shot.  So, with my 2 OF chances, I rolled 6 and 8.  So much for glory.

Sadly, an altogether familiar and frequent event in my playings.

Peace. Michael

I would suppose we should take all of our off topic conversations to a more appropriate forum, but we just have too much fun when we talk. Nice to have friends!

Peter or Drew can call me on the carpet for it!

I’ll bet, Lt. Colonel Murphy. How long have you been playing?
