Dug-in first fire
1. Does "First Fire" apply to dug-in units in subsequent assaults they are the "defender" once the "attacking" unit is "locked" in melee and they occupy the hex together?
2. Once "locked in melee" Do 'Dug-in" units forfeit their dug-in status when they chose to initiate an assault as an "attacker?"

RE: Dug-in first fire
1. Yes, always get first fire when defending as long as that dug-in counter is there

2. No, they keep dug-in status and although you know, for any newbie reading, they do not get first fire when they initiate the attack in the assault hex.

The answers are also in the Annotated Rules, but not where you'd think. See the first notes under Rule 12.11.

Thanks, had trouble finding it in the rules. You confirmed how I play it. Thanks.
