By the way, the commercial acceptability of the Arab Israeli wars can also be seen as a desire to see NATO vs. Warsaw Pact weaponry in action. While not quite a proxy war in geopolitical terms these wars were clearly a testing ground for the weapons systems and doctrines of the two superpowers.

I am hardly one to downplay the commercial appeal of the 73 war having just picked up Yom Kippur and Heights of Courage!

I like all the ideas presented. The one that calls to me first is Vietnam, and a close second is Indo-Pakistan '65. I've been gaming air combat for the Indo-Pakistan conflict and the mix of aircraft types, from Korean War leftover F-86s to state-of-the-art F-104s, Vampires to MiG-21s, is astounding. The ground war has to be similar in scope. A pretty close 3rd would have to be the '73 war though.

Indo-Pakistan war...the first test of American vs Soviet equipment...Patton city, the battlefield full of destroyed or abandoned Pattons and Shermans.....

What put the fear of God into NATO in the 60's and 70's.

I wonder if I should edit the poll and add some of games mentioned? Or will I lose the data of the current votes if I do that?

Jay,

The thread is plenty good enough to keep track. I think you do lose the previous votes if you alter the poll. I hope that designers (and prospective designers) take note of the interest.

Ok Matt, I'll leave it as is.

Vietnam War - Easter Offensive- lots of maneuver, good armor vs. massive airpower - unpredictable steadfast or fragile ARVN

It's funny, I was sitting in the reading room this morning going through Polish Steel and was thinking to myself "I wonder what the next Modern PG subject will be?" And now there's a poll for it.

I agree.  As mentioned in my last post, I was reading Polish Steel and thinking that the only reason these alt-history games exist is to see what these toys would have done.  BTW, I have both of these and want to give them a spin.  If you're interested in playing HoC or YK via VASSAL, let me know.

Joshua,

I'm afraid I have never VASSALed before. Let me get some tutoring and I will PM you.
