Sixth Annual PG-HQ Awards
by Shad, 2016-07-18

All of these annual awards are based on what we call the PG-HQ Year, in this case - Year 6 - all activity from June 6th 2015 to June 5th 2016, inclusive. Furthermore, in order to be eligible for an award you must have played and recorded at least 6 battles during this period. That's equivalent to achieving our first promotion from Recruit to Private. The reasoning is if you can't play once every 2 months you probably don't deserve an award!

Also, don't forget that the full list of yearly winners for each award is in our Hall of Fame!

This award is totally pointless but I love it anyway.

At 08:56:39 on 2015 June 6th, U.S Central Time, thomaso827 added the first play of PG-HQ's sixth year. Congratulations buddy, you and your play for Kursk - Burning Tigers #3 were FIRST! in Year 6.

Writer's Club

Unawarded! Articles fell by the wayside AGAIN in Year 6. Shame on all of you sending your content to the AP site instead of sharing it here! :-P ... but I'm not blameless. I have a half-written article on VASSAL play stashed away somewhere on this hard drive.

Player of the Year

Congratulations thomaso827, you have successfully defended your 2015 title and are the 2016 Player of the Year with an impressive 81 scenarios logged between 2015 June 6th and 2016 June 5th!

Shared Player of the Year

We have co-winners again this year, Wallenstein81 and Megaton666 tallied 32 shared plays against each other in 2016! These guys have played each other 35 times and their W-L-D record stands at 15-13-7 with Wallenstein81 holding the lead. What a great rivalry, you guys should co-author an article for PG-HQ about the meta game!

Chronicler of the Year

Plays are the fuel that drives our statistics, but the character, the nature of Panzer Grenadier only truly seeps forth from our After Action Reports. Congratulations thomaso827 who not only defended his 2015 title with 81 AARs but also tallied a second consecutive 100% AAR rate!

Longest Wind

They just go on and on and on! Hopefully it's all worth reading in the end!

Was there even a battle? No one knows because these authors aren't talking!

Hard to Please

Conversely, some people just ain't ever happy with their battles. Maybe they have bad luck picking scenarios to play, maybe they simply hold Panzer Grenadier to a higher standard than the rest of us... no matter the reason, we salute their discriminating taste all the same!

Decisively Indecisive

"We fought and we fought and we fought and we fought... and at the end of the day... nobody won!"

Frustrating I'm sure! In honor of those among us who, try as they might, seem to always get stuck in stalemates, we've created the Decisively Indecisive award.

If you're going to take the trouble to do something, might as well do it the best you possibly can! 2016's most Decisively Indecisive member was petermc who logged 4 draws over 8 plays for a draw rate of 50%!

  • Runner-up: Proff3RTR, 3 draws over 7 plays, 43%
  • Second Runner-up: garbare83686, 17 draws over 59 plays, 29%
Game Spice of Life

Nation Spice of Life

Who captained the most different nations in 2016? thomaso827 set himself up nicely as repeat champion but Michael Murphy snuck in at the end to grab a share of the trophy! 14 nations took the prize this year. Congratulations to both of you!

  • Runner-up: Coniglius led 13 nations, so close!
Unit Spice of Life

Unit Spice of Life goes to thomaso827! Over the past year he has led 362 different units into battle!

Persian Warlord

Though you can do battle in Panzer Grenadier with as few as 7 counters, the veterans know that vast, sweeping battles are where the command and control system shines best.

Persian Warlord goes to the member who played the scenario with the largest counter total over the past year. This year's winner is waynebaumber who marshaled 418 units in Beyond Normandy #24!

Xerxes Reborn

And then there's the general who makes his enemies fight in the shade. Xerxes Reborn goes to the member who commanded the most total units over the course of the previous year. This award goes to thomaso827, who led 4,720 units into battle after battle!

Tireless Warrior

On one end of the spectrum, Panzer Grenadier offers a handful of battles that clock in at 105 minutes maximum. At the other end, the iron-grog can immerse himself in multi-day rampages. The Tireless Warrior award is given annually to the member who bagged the longest single scenario by turn total.

This year we honor Coniglius who tackled the 199 turns for Afrika Korps #2!

Tireless Campaigner

But when the dust settles and the battle has finished, the Tireless Warrior may rest, whereas the Tireless Campaigner must carry on until the last of his enemies are scattered to the four winds.

For logging the most total turns in battle over the past year with an exhausting 1,374 turns of death and destruction, thomaso827 is the 2016 Tireless Campaigner!

The Cinderella of our Annual Awards, the glorious honor that is LAST! is bestowed upon that user who recorded a play closest to midnight, 2016 June 5th.

This year's winner is Wallenstein81, who logged a play for Liberation 1944 #5 at 19:26:20, June 5th. Congratulations buddy, you were LAST! in Year 6.

In Conclusion

Panzer Grenadier Headquarter's sixth year saw fewer plays and AARs overall, but our members are happier with the system than they've ever been before. Our lowest average rating - 3.06 - was not only the highest in history, but also above the 3.0 ratings midpoint for the first time. Our highest average rating - 4.47 - was almost fanatically high and also set a new record!

thomaso827 took home a stunning 9 awards to go on the digital mantle beside the 8 he won last year. Coupled with his 4.47 average rating it's fair to say that Panzer Grenadier is his paradise and we're all just living in it!

Panzer Grenadier grew by over 100 scenarios this past year. Raise your hand if you foresaw that five years ago when we broke the 1,500 scenario barrier! Thanks to our hardworking developers for churning out new quality content!

See you all next year!
