Scenario InoG033

I had played 6 turns, with the US holding the ridge of the big hill, and dying like flies on it, so thought I should look at that scenario again, and there it was. Ignore all hills except for the small one in the southwest corner. Reset and started over and things went much more according to the scenario history. The US sets up with 6 infantry, 2 HMG, 2 mortars, a 57mm AT gun with truck, dug in on the hill in the southwest corner of the board. It's night and muddy. Germans have 10 grenadiers, 3 HMGs, 3 mortarsa 75mm AT gun and a 75mm Infantry gun, both with their wagons to tow them. The US have 2 18 OBA factors and the Germans 2 16s. The US set up along the spine of the hill and on the 40m level, dug in, and the visibility is 2 hexes the whole game, which gives the defender the opportunity to hit the attacker in the adjacent hex. The Germans approached from the north in 2 elements trying to envelope the north edge of the US line, but immediately Germans started taking casualties and leaders started being disrupted and demoralized. The attack force that managed to assault the northern US hex were wiped out in 2 turns of assault and flanking moves ended in disaster as US troops fired down onto them. Both sides suffered from friendly fire casualties to OBA stray fire, but the Germans, being caught in the open, suffered far worse losses. At the end of 7 turns, with the Germans having lost most of their infantry and HMGs, the mortars fleeing and stray leaders and units all over the field but not in position to renew an assault, and even the German Major and a stack stuck in assault, the Major and 2 infantry platoons demoralized, it was time to end the bloodshed and let the surviving attackers head off in the darkness. German losses of 18 to none for the US, and Germans took 2 hill hexes, 1 contesed but 18 firmly in US hands, the US win a major victory here. Great game.
